The Stages of Building Your Home
There is nothing like building your dream home, next to marriage and childbirth; it's definitely one of the big three. And, watching it every step of the way, your hopes, your plans, your ideas become a house and then your home, it is amazing. Probably the hardest part is the waiting.
The very beginning is the toughest, that is when all of the behind the scenes stuff is happening: finalizing the plans, distributing the blueprints to the plumbers, electricians all of the subcontractors, securing the proper permits and ordering all of the materials. This part takes several weeks before any of the major work begins on your homesite.
Here's what to expect over the next four to five months:
Stage 1: Foundation
The homesite is prepared, foundation forms are set, in-slab plumbing is installed and the concrete is poured and cured. Approximate time: 2 - 4 weeks
Stage 2: Framing
This is where you will really notice some changes. In a matter of days, your site will go from a concrete slab to the framework of a house with exterior and interior walls and a roof. This is when you will get your first real sense of your new home. Approximate time: 2 - 3 weeks
Stage 3: Roofing
The house framework now becomes "weatherproof." We install decking, flashing and shingles. We will also install the windows and wrap the exterior walls with sheathing. Approximate time: 2 - 4 weeks
Stage 4: Drywall Prep/Major House Systems
This is where your electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems come together. All electrical wiring, outlets and breaker boxes are installed. Air conditioning, heating equipment and plumbing is in place. This is also when municipal inspections take place. Approximate time: 2 - 4 weeks
Stage 5: Drywall and Exterior Finish
After electrical, plumbing, HVAC, inspections and insulation, exterior and interior wall surfaces are covered and finished. This is when your house really begins to take shape and start to look like your dream home. Brick, stucco and/or stone go up on the outside. Drywall is installed and texture is applied inside. Approximate time: 2 - 4 weeks
Stage 6: Doors and Wood Trim
Now your drywall is complete and the texture has cured, it's time for the finish carpenters to install all the interior doors and molding, as well as any staircase railings and balusters. Approximate time: 1 - 2 weeks
Stage 7: Cabinets, Countertops and Paint
The inside is coming together. This is when the kitchen and bathroom cabinets are installed. Countertops are set in place and all of the interior has been primed and painted with your choices of finishes. Approximate time: 2 - 3 weeks
Stage 8: Fixtures and Flooring
Your specially picked out fixtures and floorings are now onsite and ready to go in: lighting and plumbing fixtures, carpet, tile, wood flooring are all installed. You are able to really see the interior of your dream house come together. Approximate time: 1 - 2 weeks
Stage 9 - Builder Acceptance
This is when the Project Manager and Bell staff perform a thorough inspection of your entire home to assure that it meets our high construction standards
Stage 10 - Homeowner Introductory Tour
The day has finally arrived!!! This is when Bell will introduce you to your new home, pointing out all its unique features and systems. From here, it's a matter of a few weeks and this Bell house is your new home. You will close and pick up the keys. Congratulations and welcome to the Bell family!
